FAQ
Pilates of Stamford

Who started Pilates?
Joseph Hubertus Pilates began this method of conditioning over seventy years ago. It was originally called 'Contology'. In its earliest development, Pilates was used to rehabilitate injured soldiers and to strengthen ballerinas. While this method has expanded in its audience, the original exercises and body movements remain true to his original principles of body sculpting and physical training.

How are teachers trained?
Master Teacher Romana Kryzanowska was a direct inheritor and link to Joseph Pilates' original studio. Our teachers have received their training in this method and attend regular workshops throughout the year to maintain their education and keep up with the latest trends.
